Outreach

Waterside Outreach works hard to promoting equality of opportunity, fairness, good practice and a culture that enables all children to achieve their potential by managing their behaviour successfully. We are also committed in our work with every child, regardless of background or circumstance to offer them the support they need to achieve their full potential.

Our Outreach Team are a commissioned service who work with the Royal Borough of Greenwich to support children who have been referred by their mainstream school. Our team work with individuals as well as groups and classes to help children with social, emotional or and or mental health needs.

We work in partnership with our mainstream colleagues to offer support through a range of strategies including:

  • Observation, assessment and early 'hands on' intervention for children and whole classes causing concern as a result of their behaviour suggesting appropriate strategies
  • Empowering staff to feel confident in working with children who are presenting a range of difficult and emotional behaviours through the sharing of practical expertise and strategies
  • Helping class teachers, SENCOs  and Inclusion Managers to write Individual Educational Plans for children they have referred to us
  • Targeted, regular, weekly, in class or withdrawn support for individual pupils or whole classes from either a Behaviour Support Teacher or Behaviour Teaching Assistant
  • Working directly with whole classes, small groups and individuals
  • Staff coaching in the area of behaviour management
  • Training for school staff in how to run Circle time (Jenny Mosley) 'Quality Circle Time Model)
  • Contribution to CAF (common assessment framework) TAC (team around the child) and PSP (Pastoral Support Programmes)

Waterside Outreach supports Greenwich schools to remove barriers to learning for individuals or groups who are demonstrating social, emotional and/or mental health difficulties.

If you are considering referring (or re-referring) a child to us, please download the behaviour tracker on the right hand side of this page and complete it over a two week period. This helps to identify key behaviours and triggers as well as speeding up our referrals process.

After completing the referral form (on the right hand side), and the behaviour tracker, a member of the team will be in contact to arrange an initial observation. This is likely to result in an offer of Level 1 support.

Level 1 support actions include:

  • Support with current routines and systems
  • Sharing of strategies and practices
  • Advice as well as recommendations regarding other services/support mechanisms

Should further support be required, we will consider offering direct support to the individual or group referred. This support will work in conjunction with referring school as well as parents/carers to ensure a ‘wrap-around’ approach is provided.

 LeAFE Training

The Imperium Federation lead on LeAFE training (supportive holding) and this can be delivered directly to your teams. The training is CPD UK, BILD and RRN approved as well as having been seen by OFSTED and was mentioned by the DfE as an outstanding methodology.

LeAFE training offers a system based upon understanding and working with natural movement of the body. This promotes a non-confrontational, pro-active and preventative approach to managing challenging behaviour by using gradual and graded interventions.

For more information regarding the above mentioned training, please contact either Mr Griffiths or Mr Collard on the school’s main telephone number (option 5) or visit the website by clicking/tapping here.
